Our Founder
The Legacy
Gatehouse Founder, Ted Earl, has formed a career and, now, a legacy from his talent for seeing the potential within others and giving it a place to grow.
Ted Earl
Ted’s vision for others started as an executive recruiter, placing thousands of individuals in new work opportunities. His “retirement” brought him to Arizona in 1984, to a 600-acre horse ranch.
Ted’s childhood loss to alcoholism of a brother in his teens shaped his 40+ years of personal recovery and lead to the development of the horse ranch as a unique recovery concept and program built around equine activity.
Changing Young Minds
Ted’s continued to develop his vision of transformation possibilities for the lives of young adults who choose recovery from addiction. With the establishment of Gatehouse Academy in Wickenburg, AZ, Ted’s organization has successfully taught hundreds of young men and women how to regain themselves, their lives and their abilities to create purpose and meaning in life.
Gatehouse College Campus
After a period of successful recovery, the residents of Gatehouse often wish to expand their new lives to include higher education. Unfortunately, typical drinking trends in many college settings can be too destructive for recovering students. Once again, Ted has created a solution with the Gatehouse College Campus. This 24-bed facility is built around three local colleges in Prescott, AZ, and is structured to provide positive lifestyle habituation for the students.
Scholarships
Ted also provides the graduates of Gatehouse College Campus scholarship opportunities to the University of Northern Arizona. This is made possible by a grant from the Gatehouse Educational Foundation, a newly formed not-for-profit organization.
Earl's Goal
Ted’s desire is to build the campus to 100 students within the next two years, with additional campus locations in New York. Given his track record, this recruiter-turned-rancher-turned-recovery leader is apt to be there sooner than that, teaching strength through sobriety and service to others.
